Louvre Abu Dhabi has unveiled an exhibition, titled Post-Impressionism: Beyond Appearances, in collaboration with Musée d’Orsay of Paris. Building upon the success of the museum’s previous Impressionism exhibition, this new showcase dives deep into the transformative period of Post-Impressionism from 1886 to 1905.

Running from 16 October, 2024 until 9 February 9, 2025, Post-Impressionism: Beyond Appearances promises a visual feast. But the piece de resistance is Van Gogh’s masterpiece, Bedroom in Arles. This artwork offers a glimpse into the famed artist’s soul, capturing the essence of Post-Impressionism and its departure from traditional artistic norms. It also speaks of the Yellow House Van Gogh lived in, back in 1888, where he had set up his studio as well.

For those unfamiliar with Vincent van Gogh, he was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter. His artistic journey began at a young age, and over the years, he honed his craft, experimenting with bold colours and dramatic brushwork. This later went on to define the expressionist movement in modern art and became his signature style. He remains one of the most celebrated figures in the world of Western art.

Van Gogh’s portfolio comprises approximately 2,100 artworks, spanning landscapes, still life, and self-portraits. His most famous works include The Starry Night, Sunflowers, The Potato Eaters,” and Van Gogh’s Bedroom in Arles — the last of which is heading to Abu Dhabi.
