Airbnb Icons: Stay in homes from Purple Rain, Up and X-Men

Hang out with Doja Cat, Janhvi Kapoor and Kevin Hart. 

Airbnb has introduced Icons, which gives visitors the chance to enjoy extraordinary experiences from popular culture. Guests will be able to drift off in the air balloon from Up, sleep in Prince’s purple-hued home from Purple Rain, and set foot in the mansion from X-Men. Plus, there are once-in-a-lifetime experiences, from a night at the Ferrari Museum to hanging out with comedian Kevin Hart. 

Brian Chesky, Airbnb co-founder and CEO, explained: “Icons take you inside worlds that only existed in your imagination – until now. As life becomes increasingly digital, we’re focused on bringing more magic into the real world. With Icons, we’ve created the most extraordinary experiences on Earth.”

Airbnb has introduced 11 experiences, and more will be announced throughout the year. Each experience draws inspiration from art, music, film, television and sport. It’s a rare chance for visitors to sleep somewhere unique, and create magical memories. 

The Up experience is located in Abiquiu, New Mexico, and has been recreated with 8,000 balloons. The X-Men experience is located in Westchester, New York, and is a 2D animated re-creation of the X-Mansion. The Purple Rain home is located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It featured in the film and was later purchased by Prince. 

Guests can sleep at Musee d’Orsay in Paris, France, and Ferrari Museum in Maranello, Italy. Special experiences include a stay at Bollywood star Janhvi Kapoor’s family home, a week on Feid’s tour bus, a night with TikTok gamer Khaby Lame, and a living room performance from Doja Cat. 

Plus, to mark the release of the film Inside Out 2, guests can stay in a recreation of the film’s headquarters.
